Detoxing - Why Your Body Craves it

Detox is such a hot word when it comes to health and wellness. And rightfully so. If I can compare our bodies to a car here for one second (bear with me) I can explain to you why there is such a focus on it and why it's so crucial.

To keep the car running smoothly, as far as I understand, it is important to regularly flush out the fluid lines to keep the car performing at it's peak, to make sure you can get to where you need to be, always and on time. In addition to that, we always make sure to put good gas in our cars. Typically, if you fill it up with some sub par, shitty gas- it's not going to be good for the car. We should kind of be thinking about the maintenance of our bodies in the same way. Both when it comes to what we put into it to make sure it is performing well, but also the regular "flushing of the lines" helps to ensure things stay in tip top shape.

Detoxing is more than just for weight loss, it's for optimal health!

Detoxing is often thrown around- especially related to weight loss. If you are feeling any sort of bloating, maybe you have just come back from a vacation, or you are trying to get back on track with your eating, the suggestion is usually a detox. It totally makes sense in all of these cases, detoxes can be a great reset, but how I would also love for you to view detoxing is not JUST related to weight, but more to keep up the peak performance of your gut and your overall body.

Everything happens in the gut! And the state of your gut can have a huge impact on the way that you feel! All your nutrients are absorbed in your gut when you eat, it controls your metabolism, and can even play a role when it comes to your emotional health.  This is why a regular detox, to return things into balance can be a really beneficial complement to your wellness journey.

What kind of detox are we talking here? Personally, I am not a big fan of liquid detoxes of any form. There is a psychological function when it comes to chewing that helps keep body, mind and emotions in balance. So when it's comes time to detox, I always do a solid food one that includes many detoxifying foods.

How often should you detox? You can get the most benefits for your system if you detox at least twice a year- one in the fall and then again in the spring, The idea is that you are giving your body a cleanse to help it get back into shape.

What should you look for when it comes to the right detox? When it comes to finding the detox that is right for you, there are a few things to consider. First off, make sure its something that includes a variety of detoxifying foods:  leafy greens, cauliflower, lemon, nuts and oils. Secondly, you want something that is going to be quick and something that it easy to fit into your lifestyle. Anything from 5-10 days is sufficient. They are meant to be a reset that should be relatively simple for you to achieve.

My 7 Day Detox that I offer includes the triple S's : Smoothies, Soups and Salads.

Most of which are simle to make ahead of time, so that it's easy to follow and they are great recipes you can keep and use again and again! If you want to find out more information, or to purchase this detox, you can do that here!

Here are a few things to ask yourself when considering if you need a detox:

Are you experiencing decreased digestion?

Do you feel foggy, find it difficult to concentrate, and are becoming more forgetful?

Do you feel tired, and low in energy?

Remember- detoxing is NOT about weight loss (though there is a high chance that you may shed a few pounds of fluid and waste) instead, it's meant to help you to continue to live optimally and it meant as another way to show your body some love!
