NY Resolutions: How are Yours Going?

We are almost through the first month of 2019, just like that! And if this is indicative of how the rest of the year is going to go, then we are in for one wild ride, and one that is going to fly by if we aren't more mindful and paying attention.

If you are like me, and many others, 2018 was a really hard year. Some heavy shit happens for a lot of people in 2018 and for most of us, it was a year which we were ready to say goodbye to. There’s also something to be said about the feeling in the air as a new calendar year turns over. It feels a little bit like a rebirth, a fresh start to take your journey into your own hands again and set some intentions.

Most people take this time, whether its writing it down, or just giving it some thought, to set personal goals, or reflect on things they would like to change for the upcoming year. This is a great process to work through. It forces you to re-evaluate your current habits and take you control back by being mindful about practices you are going to change going forward.Trouble is, that if we don't spend time to revisit those goals, and aren't actively checking back in with ourselves, it is very easy to lose sight of them, and push those goals aside. So I am here today to remind you. Take some time the next couple of days to revisit those personal goals you made yourself and check in on your progress, remembering that even slow and small progress is still progress. Reflect on if those goals are still important, or if perhaps they have changed and what the new ones are. As humans, we are constantly changing and need to be adaptive to these changes, because that is just life! It doesn't mean that you have failed, it simply means that you are shifting you priorities to what is important in this moment.

balanceblissblog (125 of 97)My goals for this year all revolved around one theme: GROWTH.

And more specifically, this year I wanted to get more comfortable with spending time alone. To get out of some of the habits I have created with not wanting to leave the house too much, and being uncomfortable with being by myself. I am proud to say I have made great strides towards this goal in the last month already, and in addition to that, I also have plans for this year which will help me grow towards shifting this mindset! So what did I do this month? For starters, I got a gym membership, by myself! I really enjoyed using the BeachBody On Demand platform, and doing workouts at home. But it got to the point where this was negatively feeding my excuse for not going anywhere and not getting out of the house. That and I wasn't using it as often anymore, so I needed to switch things up! Going to the gym by myself (whether it's on the weekend, on the way home from work or on a weeknight)  has proven to be a great outlet for me already. It pretty much forces you to be alone :) And it's growing on me again! Secondly, I've shifted some limiting mindsets about leaving the house and doing things to further my passion that were no longer serving me. What does that mean? It means that I used to feel immense feelings of guilt if I were not here every second of the day Clara was home and awake (any other moms able to relate?) I would feel like I always needed to be here, like I was burdening my husband (even though he never complained once, he's a gem) and I for some reason felt like he would be upset with me for leaving. Guess what! Turns out I made up all of that in my mind. Our minds are pretty powerful things, and if we keep telling ourselves something, we start to believe its true! So, instead I made a decision to drop the guilt. It is of no reflection on my badassery as a mom if I take time for myself outside of the home. And in having done that, JUST THIS MONTH, I am already feeling significant changes in my thoughts and my enjoyment at being connected with the world around me! I am really looking forward to what February has in store for me, and I can't wait to move forward with my resolutions and intentions. Did you set anything for yourself for this year? I would love for you to share with me! Need any help staying accountable to your health and wellness goals? Drop me a line- I would love to work with you to find your inner goddess!
